HARVARD UNIVERSITY PANDEMIC PAY POLICY PETITION
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we janitors and security officers have done the essential work of keeping the Harvard community safe and clean. As we enter the Spring semester, we stand united in calling on Harvard University to support us by continuing to extend its pay policy to cover all janitors and security officers, regardless of whether or not they’re directly employed by the University or by a contractor.
For decades, contracted and directly-employed workers have dedicated ourselves to Harvard university. During this unprecedented time, when this pandemic and the resulting economic crisis is ravaging our communities, we need our service to be recognized.
Many of us have contracted the virus or have lost loved ones and have seen our communities disproportionately impacted by this virus. Despite these challenges, we have persevered, and we are committed to serve Harvard and its community for years to come. Harvard will recover from this economic crisis, but workers like us cannot afford to lose our jobs. We urge the Harvard administration to do the right thing as they did before and continue to extend the pandemic pay policy to contracted workers.
