Thank you for joining the GCE-US Coalition Meeting on September 12, 2022!

On September 12, GCE-US convened an International Literacy Day coalition meeting that included discussions on the importance of improving foundation literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills for all students, transforming education through disability inclusion, and upcoming advocacy opportunities, including the Transforming Education Summit and Education Cannot Wait High-Level Financing Conference.

United Nations Transforming Education Summit Solutions Day

Transforming Commitments into Real Solutions for Disability-Inclusive Education 

GCE-US joined Light for the World, Global Campaign for Education, Sightsavers, International Disability Alliance, International Disability and Development Consortium, Humanity & Inclusion, Perkins School for the Blind, Leonard Chesire, Christian Blind Mission, GLAD Network, Government of Sierra Leone, Government of South Africa, ANCEFA, UNICEF, The World Bank to organize the Transforming Commitments into Real Solutions for Disability Inclusive Education session during the Transforming Education Summit. This event included a powerful panel discussion among important stakeholders, highlighting new commitments and tools that aim to transform education systems to be more inclusive for learners with disabilities.

Education Financing Observatory: Setting the Grounds for Sustainable, Fair and Inclusive Financing

As part of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) Education Financing Observatory: Setting the Grounds for Sustainable, Fair, and Inclusive Financing session during the Transforming Education Summit Solutions Day, GCE-US Student Fellow Anny Lin joined Ministers of Education from Argentina and Malawi and GCE partners to discuss the urgent need for gender transformative and disability-inclusive education financing. We invite you to watch and share Anny's speech here!

 

Unlock the Future of Learning Spotlight Session:

Transforming Education in Emergencies through Intergenerational Solidarity, Coordination, and Action

On 19 September, GCE-US, World Vision International, 100 Million, Plan International, Jesuit Refugee Services/USA, Global Student Forum, and the UN Foundation convened a dynamic and powerful Unlock the Future of Learning spotlight session, which highlighted a youth-led dialogue on the importance of investing in education in emergency contexts. Youth and student speakers shared their personal stories with education in emergency settings, and emphasized that to truly transform education, there is a critical need to advance disability inclusion in education systems, mental health resources, full education financing and funding in all settings, and gender equality in and through education. We encourage you to watch the recording of the session.

Thank you to the incredible congressional champions, Rep. Lois Frankel, Rep. Michael Waltz, and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, and partners who joined the Keeping Girls in School Act briefing on Capitol Hill on Thursday, September 22, 2022. We were joined by UNICEF USA Ambassador, actor, singer, and advocate Sofia Carson, and heard from an incredible panel of youth activists with Plan International, including Victoria Bradley and Tia El Tenn, in a discussion on the importance of girls’ education with Alisa Phillips, Senior Education Advisor at World Vision US, and Moderator Erin Kennedy, Senior Director-External Engagement with ChildFund International.
