Mobile Baykeeper is looking for a Grants Manager to coordinate and write grant applications for funding, ensure deliverables are met, and report on progress to funders in order to provide our Programs Department with the sufficient funds, staff, and equipment to create measurable change in the health of the waters of Coastal Alabama.
Mobile Baykeeper is seeking an Administrator to manage our AmeriCorps State and National grant and carry out day-to-day administrative functions. The ideal candidate will be responsible for securing and remaining compliant with our annual grant by collaborating with the Baykeeper team to ensure programmatic goals are met amongst the education, field and research, oyster gardening, and volunteer engagement teams, while also managing reception and other administrative tasks.
The Oyster Project Manager will spearhead Mobile Baykeeper’s efforts to restore the oyster population in Mobile Bay. Working under the direction of the Baykeeper, the Oyster Project Manager will manage oyster restoration projects, including the Impact 100 Oyster Gardening Project and other projects aimed at significantly enhancing the bay’s oyster habitat and ensuring our waterways thrive.
The Baykeeper Patrol Program researches local pollution problems to improve water quality, reduce impacts from stormwater, sewer, and/or industrial pollution. AmeriCorps Members will work in target areas of Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Core activities include conducting site inspections, patrolling local waterways, assisting with comment letters and policy issues, investigating citizen concerns, collecting water quality samples, documenting environmental pollution, and creating environmental issue fact sheets. AmeriCorps Members will receive experience with environmental issues including stormwater, sewer, and industrial pollution, state and federal regulations and permit reviews and gain skills in field sampling techniques. Members of the Patrol Team also assist Mobile Baykeeper in executing restoration projects that the organization engages in such as volunteer oyster gardening. Restoration activities will likely involve working to grow oysters, establish submerged aquatic vegetation, install living shoreline, and/or pursue other projects that improve the health of Mobile Bay.
The Volunteer Program at Mobile Baykeeper seeks potential volunteers and cultivates them to become local environmental stewards by organizing and providing activities that will enhance our local environment and community. Members in this program will recruit new volunteers, reignite existing volunteers, and organize strategic and effective intervention activities that cultivate a sense of responsibility while building skills for environmental stewardship. Members will organize and host several community cleanups, recycling activities, and invasive species removals for volunteers. Members will streamline volunteer sign-up and communication processes. Members will also coordinate and collaborate with local community groups and non-profit organizations to increase overall participation in environmental stewardship activities and make a substantial difference in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
The AmeriCorps Environmental Education Program is a public awareness and education campaign and citizen-based environmental monitoring program. Members will educate community members about watersheds and empower them to take care of waterways by reducing their impact. Core activities of the program include enhancing and tailoring educational presentation materials, recruiting new community groups and schools to receive the education program, delivering presentations, and most importantly, providing outdoor, experiential learning opportunities.
The SWIM Internship at Mobile Baykeeper offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safeguarding of Coastal Alabama’s water quality. This paid/part-time role involves monitoring bacteria levels at swimming sites across Mobile and Baldwin County. Ideal candidates are comfortable working in rugged outdoor conditions, capable of water-based activities, and possess reliable transportation. While prior water quality sampling experience is not mandatory, a willingness to collect and process water samples, along with a passion for environmental conservation, is essential. This internship provides hands-on fieldwork experience, empowering interns to actively support the protection and safety of our community’s waterways.
