Ask Congress to contact the U.S. Embassy in Honduras about the criminalization of democracy defenders
Justice for Edwin Espinal and Raul Alvarez!
Starting Monday, September 13th, Edwin Espinal and Raul Alvarez are set to face trial for charges related to the anti-fraud, pro-democracy protests following the 2017 presidential elections. If convicted, they face 15-30 years in prison.
The U.S.-financed and trained Honduran state has targeted Edwin and Raul in criminal proceedings full of serious irregularities, including the fact that their trial will be held in a court that legally does not have the authority to hear it.
Ask your Senators and Representative to contact the U.S. Embassy to express their concern about this case, given that the U.S. finances and trains Honduras' Attorney General's Office, which is prosecuting democracy defenders instead of the military police who murdered demonstrators.
