Early childhood educators foster the brain development of young children, setting the foundation for them to learn and grow for the rest of their lives. Despite their significant impact on children’s success, these educators often bear the stress of low wages and limited workplace supports.

The high cost of healthcare means that educators who struggle with health challenges are often unable to see a doctor when they need one. NC Child met and interviewed early childhood educators from around the state who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to buy private health insurance in the marketplace.
