Join us for a unique live auction featuring artifacts from the Louis Sullivan Building of Newark, original art inspired by this jewel, and more! Net proceeds will benefit the On The Old Home Stretch Challenge campaign to secure a $1.1 million grant from the Jeffris Family Foundation to complete the intricate interior restoration. We are grateful to Jeanetta Pyle for her generous pacesetting gift.

This architectural masterpiece is slated to become the new permanent home of Explore Licking County, our community’s travel and tourism bureau, in 2024. Your support will help us to create a community resource that will welcome, serve, delight and inspire for many generations to come.

An Array of Artifacts & Art Objects:  Headlining the auction are a limited number of ornate terra cotta fragments saved from the Louis Sullivan Building of Newark’s recent exterior restoration, with custom-made stands handcrafted and designed by Wade Ranck of Eagle Welding (Newark, Ohio). Each piece is unique and features Sullivan's distinctive style combining both geometric and botanical elements. Guests also will browse and bid on these other Sullivan-inspired treasures:

  • Heisey Glass dating from the Sullivan period (1914-1915)
  • An original handblown glass piece inspired by our architectural gem and custom designed and created by Larry Tuber, director of the glass studio at The Works in Newark, Ohio
  • Signed prints by renowned American artist and graphic designer Rex Parker
  • Framed original artwork for the cover of the recently-released children’s book, “Journey to a Jewel Box,” signed by artist Lizz Beck
  • Signed copies of books by significant Sullivan experts of local and national significance

Meet Special Guests: Chicago’s cultural historian emeritus Tim Samuelson, America’s foremost expert on the work of Louis Sullivan, will be on hand to share insights and history about the artifacts, the Old Home Bank building, and Sullivan’s life and work. Find out why he’s passionate about telling the story of Sullivan’s architectural legacy.  

Our Auctioneers: Professional auctioneers Sam Schnaidt and Meredith Johnson of Apple Tree Auction Center will lead us through our exciting evening.

  • Fees: No charge to set up an account, register and participate in the online auction. Successful bids paid with cash or check include a 5% buyer’s premium; additional 5% fee for credit card transactions. Please make checks payable to “On The Old Home Stretch Challenge.”
