Friday, September 29. State of Tomales Bay Conference. 8:30 am Inverness Yacht Club
The conference program on September 29, 2023 speakers address Conservation Challenges with a Changing Climate. Sessions during the day include a keynote by ACR’s fire ecologist Sasha Berleman and presentations on Tomales Bay aquatic biology, hydrology, birds and butterflies. Speakers include Marin’s plan in response to sea level rise, and student researchers. The afternoon panel session features presentations on agricultural carbon farming, oyster farming, tourism, forest planning, fire hazard management, and the TBF’s restoration project at Chicken Ranch Beach. Finally, Supervisor Rodoni presented a summary of the day.

Saturday, September 30. Millerton Creek Ranch Hike. 9:30 am
Millerton Creek Ranch is an important agricultural preserve in the Tomales Bay Watershed. Join rancher Mike Giammona and Eric Rubenstahl (of Marin Agricultural Land Trust) as they lead an informative and scenic ranch hike on the east shore of Tomales Bay. Hike from 10 am to 1 pm.
Where? Go about 4 miles north on Highway 1 from Point Reyes Station. Look for the access road at the signpost “Tomales Bay Pastures” as you cross the creek (just south of the Millerton Point Preserve of Tomales Bay State Park). We will meet at the quarry along the gravel access road ¾ mile east of Highway 1. There is plenty of parking available.
This is a moderate 2-3 mile round trip hike to an overlook with a grand view of the ranch and Tomales Bay. Wear sturdy shoes and layered clothing suitable for the autumn weather. Bring a water bottle, trail snack, and your own bag lunch. Mike and Eric will lead a discussion of the history, protection, and Stewardship plan for the Millerton Creek Ranch.
Sunday October 1. Kayaking Tomales Bay 9:30 am.
Blue Waters Kayaking is hosting a 4-hour Kayak Tour of Tomales Bay as a benefit for Tomales Bay Foundation. The group assembles at 9:30 a.m. at Miller Park next to Nick’s Cove (2.5 miles north of Marshall on State Highway 1) and circumnavigates Hog Island with stops at Tom’s Point and White Gulch.
