Maine nonprofits benefit from Giving Tuesday, say need constant
The annual global event Giving Tuesday was held on Tuesday, and while Maine nonprofits said it provides an important opportunity for Mainers to support local organizations, the need is constant.“Our work doesn't end today, it continues. The pandemic certainly heightened a lot of issues that were already present with food, affordable child care, mental health and those are things that continue and are important to give back to,” said Catholic Charities Maine Communications Director Kathy Mockler.Catholic Charities Maine held its third annual Wall of Warmth Giveaway. Staff and volunteers packed more than 200 handmade scarves and hats to give away to anyone who needs them.Volunteers said being able to give back to their community is important.“There's a tremendous amount of need, and to be able to service people in their back yard and go to them, that's important,” volunteer Katie Vaillancourt said.
