The Dalton School has been in the news over its embrace of Critical Race Theory and the effort of parents to push back.

Now the school’s diversity director is out. It’s not clear if he quit or was fired.

The New York Post reports:

Head of diversity at Dalton School leaving ‘in pursuit of other opportunities’

The head of diversity at the tony Dalton School — the Upper East Side bastion of privilege that’s been rocked by controversy recently over its heavy-handed “anti-racist” ideology — is out, school officials said.

Domonic Rollins, the school’s director of DEI (“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion”) is leaving “in pursuit of other opportunities,” the school said Friday.

Rollins joined Dalton in July 2019 from Harvard University, where he worked in the president’s office as a strategist and advisor on diversity, inclusion and belonging, and as senior diversity and inclusion officer at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.

The last few months of Rollins’ tenure were marked by aggressive new moves on the part of Dalton’s headmaster Jim Best to ensure the school would be more “anti-racist.”

But simmering conflicts over the issue of anti-racism at Dalton — which counts Anderson Cooper, Christian Slater and Claire Danes as alumni — erupted publicly in December when the school’s administration and faculty issued eight pages of “proposals” to overhaul the staffing, curriculum and treatment of Black students.

Parents and alumni at the school fired off a scathing open letter decrying the school’s new race-obsessed agenda last month.

Hat tip to Megyn Kelly.

Curious what his salary was.

Enough to build the egos of those who hired him. “look how much we’re paying out diversity director”

The problem with hiring diversity directors is that they think they are really supposed to do something rather than just be a “beard” for those who hired them.

I’ve seen that. We heard within the last year of some longtime DEI person at, I think, Apple or Google who finally got tired of being massaged and “demanded action”. She was shown the door, and appropriately so. It wasn’t her job to make demands of her bosses. That was pretty obtuse in my opinion.

But given what I’ve read about Dalton, I wonder if this guy wasn’t put there intentionally to enact this sort of program — but when the admin actually saw the customers leaving, they converted him to the sacrificial lamb to assuage the dark forces afflicting their bottom line.

The admin was obtuse here. It took a lot to drive away these parents and ruin their school’s reputation. But now that it’s ruined and customers have been moving out of NYC, it’s hard to imagine how the school could get it back.

I have not- & probably never will – see any reporting on a mass exodus of Dalton students. Parents who might think about pulling their kids out realize it’s not easy to get their little darlings into other tony private schools in Manhattan.

Cynically, they will probably leave their kids there, as I strongly suspect the Dalton name still carries a lot of cachet with admissions officers at the Ivy League and top liberal arts colleges in which they have been planning to enroll them since they first saw the sonogram!

    Too much.

Looks like a layer of insulation protecting the jobs of top admins, amid the turbulent pressures of the current politics.

Not fooled for a moment, Megyn Kelly asks the right question. Why shouldn’t top administration take the hit themselves for what they’ve done to the school?

The last few months of Rollins’ tenure were marked by aggressive new moves on the part of Dalton’s headmaster Jim Best to ensure the school would be more “anti-racist.”

Headmaster??!?! They’re still using that term??!?!?

Seeing that it’s practically become a religion, it’s pretty funny that “Director of DEI” could mean “Director of God.” Rearranging the initials to DIE isn’t any less hilarious.

I hear that Becker College is looking for some creative talent.
