Spring gobbler season success for Justice

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The 2022 spring gobbler hunting season in West Virginia has only been underway for one week and Gov. Jim Justice has already has one in the books.

The governor announced Monday during his COVID-19 briefing that he killed a turkey Monday morning. He said he called the creature in with a mouth call and ended up with a kill.

Gov. Jim Justice holds the turkey he killed on Monday.

“I don’t know which is bigger but the turkey makes me not look as big as normal,” Justice said.

He said he loves spring turkey hunting in West Virginia. Justice also fishes. He urged citizens to take advantage of the outdoors in the Mountain State.

“I’m a lover of our outdoors, I’m a lover of nature in every way. I’ve always been a hunter and fisherman,” Justice said.

“We’ve been successful enough that I could have gone lots of places. I could have gone anywhere in the world to hunt and fish. What I choose to do is to stay right here. Because I love it and I love it with all my soul.”

The spring gobbler season in West Virginia will close May 22nd.
