A 17-year-old boy is charged as an adult after shooting another 16-year-old in a drug deal turned robbery, police said Monday.
Lebanon City police said Jaedyn Gaines, of Lebanon, is charged with homicide and conspiracy to commit homicide. He is being held at Lebanon County Correctional Facility after being denied bail, according to online court dockets.
Police said a second suspect is being sought by police, and his identity will be released at a later date.
The 16-year-old killed in the shooting has not been identified by police.
At 3:31 p.m. on Oct. 27, officers were called to a single-vehicle crash just north of Lehman Street on North 6th Street but instead found the vehicle with the driver suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to police, Gaines and the second suspect intended to rob two people after meeting them to buy marijuana.
The meeting was the day before Gaines’ 17th birthday.
Gaines did take marijuana from one of the people and a struggle broke out between a 16-year-old and the second suspect, police said.
During the struggle, Gaines is accused of shooting the other teen, police said. Gaines and the other suspect then ran away from the scene.
The 16-year-old drove south on 6th Street, police said, where he died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, which resulted in a crash.
The autopsy confirmed the teen’s cause of death, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lebanon City Police Department at 717-274-2054 or Crime Stoppers at 717-270-9800.
