Virtual InFARMation (&BYOB!)
Farming is Not Cancelled! Accessing Local Food Safely During COVID-19
Zoom Meeting
Thursday, April 16 6:30-8:00pm
As the uncharted territory of the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, it is comforting to know some things remain unchanged: Spring is here, crops are growing, hens are laying, and your local farmers are still working hard every day to make sure your community has access to the safe, nutritious and delicious food.
Navigating the new restrictions and making the safest choices for public health, while also supporting your local farmers and ranchers can seem like a hard act to balance. Join us for a virtual InFARMation on Thursday April 16th at 6:30 pm to hear from some statewide nonprofits and local farmers who are adapting to these new challenges. This virtual event will include information on:
- Reasons that local food is the safest choice during this pandemic
- How to safely shop at farmers markets
- New options for online ordering and delivery
- Accessing local food with SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks during this crisis
- CSA’s and how they can be accessible to all
- Ways to ensure your local food system comes through this crisis strong
This information will be statewide, all Oregonians are welcome! We will be building regional specific calls based on interest and feedback after this introductory presentation, so look for more information soon.
Our presenters for the evening will be:
- Shari Sirkin: Small farmer and Executive Director of Friends of Family Farmers
- Kait Crowley: Owner of PK Pastures, raising pastured pork, chicken and duck in Sweet Home. She will give examples of adaptive models for small farmers
- Amanda Cross: Program Manager of the Oregon Farmers Market Association, will share technical assistance available to farmers markets across the state
- Holly Hutchason: Executive Director of the Portland Area CSA Coalition (PACSAC). Holly will explain partnering with the Farmers Market Coalition to be the statewide avenue for farmers to claim DUFB for CSA shares.
Join us for an evening of community and uplifting support of local agriculture. This will be a video conference meeting, so you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home with your choice of dinner, snacks and/or beverage. Tell your friends and enjoy a night “out” together, while getting all the info you need to keep your food system strong. Cheers to your local farmers!
