With Pride Month just around the corner, it’s time to make your itinerary. But if you’re trans, sifting through the docket of June raves, parades, and social gatherings comes with the added challenge of figuring out which invitations actually include us and which don’t. It’s a shame that even in ostensibly LGBTQ+ friendly spaces, we have to ask ourselves whether we’ll be welcome, but that’s the unfortunate (and unjust) truth.

Even though Pride was created thanks to the labor of Black and brown trans organizers, many contemporary events still fail to center trans people or consider our safety. That’s why organizers in several cities have started trans-centered Pride events that give trans folks the opportunity to learn, access resources, meet community, and just cut loose in a safe environment. And in 2022, with right-wing attacks on trans people ramping up to fever pitch, these spaces are more necessary than ever.

As the onslaught of legislative, legal, and physical violence against trans people continues, fighting back is important but taking a moment to celebrate trans joy is equally critical. If you want to bask in T4T happiness and celebration this Pride month, read on for a full list of trans-centered events.

Trans Pride Los Angeles: June 16 - June 18

This year’s L.A. Trans Pride kicks off on June 16 and stretches across three full days of festivities, concluding on June 18. Hosted by the trans education and empowerment organization Trans* Lounge, the events range from panels on trans issues to live musical performances to resource fairs filled with vendors.

Most of the events are both in-person and online, so if venturing out to an actual panel or DJ set isn’t an option for you, tune in for free via Zoom. All in-person attendees are required to show proof of vaccination.

Capital Trans Pride Pool Party: June 11

Capital Trans Pride in Washington D.C. is determining a new date for its Trans March, but in the meantime is planning to host smaller events like its Trans Pool Party on June 11, 2022. Organizers encourage attendees to come “cool off” after the D.C. Pride Parade with live music, appetizers, and drinks.

The event is free, but be sure to grab your tickets ahead of time and bring your proof of vaccination to the door.

Trans March San Francisco: June 24

The San Francisco Trans March is one of the largest Trans Pride events in the world. Organizers were excited to announce it will be having in-person events on Friday, June 24, 2022 for the first time since 2019, including a resource fair, an intergenerational brunch, and the Trans March itself. More information will be announced closer to the event date, so be sure to check back during Pride Month itself.

Trans Resistance MA March and Festival: June 25

Boston Pride officially dissolved in 2021 after organizers were accused of racism, anti-Blackness and transphobia by volunteers and committee members alike. However, Trans Resistance MA, an organization “advocating for the safety, joy, and liberation of TQBIPOC,” will be hosting a march on June 25. That same day, the organization will also be putting on a full docket of events, including a festival filled with performances, vendors, and mutual aid drives.

Queer Liberation March in New York City: June 26

The Queer Liberation March in New York City is an annual event dedicated to reclaiming pride for trans and BIPOC freedom. This year’s march, titled “BECAUSE CONTROL OVER OUR BODIES AND LIVES IS CONTROL OVER OUR BODIES AND LIVES!” will take place on Sunday, June 26 in Manhattan.

Organizers say that this year’s march is meant to push back against the idea that abortion rights are a white cisgender woman’s issue, pointing out that attacks on reproductive freedom are, in fact, deeply intertwined with trans sports and healthcare bans.

“It’s impossible to decouple this SCOTUS decision from ongoing attempts to control the bodies of anyone who isn’t cisgender, white, and male,” Paul Nocera, a bisexual Reclaim Pride Coalition organizer since 2019, said in a press release for the march.

London Trans Pride: July 9

London Trans pride will kick off Pride Month in the U.K. on July 9, 2022. The protest and rally will be “a response to the injustices that trans+ people face daily, all over the world,” according to an announcement on the organization’s Instagram.

“Wear flowers to honor the long legacy of transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and intersex people who came before us. Remember PRIDE IS A PROTEST,” the organization announced on their Instagram.

Last summer, Pride events nationwide lost their corporate branding and found a thirst for liberation. Here’s how activists are fighting to keep that momentum.

Seattle Trans Pride: September 2

Trans Pride events aren’t limited to June and July, especially in places with long summers. Seattle Trans Pride takes place on September 2 this year and includes a march and festival with live performances.

“The goal of Trans Pride Seattle is to increase the strength of the trans and gender diverse community and our allies — both within and beyond Seattle — through increased visibility, connection, love, and the celebration of our lives,” the event website states.

It’s important to note that celebrating trans pride doesn’t have to be confined to parades and public demonstrations. There are infinite ways to feel and express trans joy in your everyday life by spending time with community, attending learning events online, and even just practicing self-love.
