We have Faith in an Indiana

where everyone can thrive,

no exceptions.

This decade, we’re rewriting our future in Indiana.

We believe every person who calls Indiana home deserves a safe and affordable place to call home, quality schools, a caring economy, and clean air, water, and land for generations to come.  That vision is at the core of our Path to Power initiative — an ambitious 10-year plan to make Indiana more inclusive, safe, and free no matter your race, zip code, or what’s in your wallet.

Together, we’re making it happen.

How we work.

Change doesn’t happen overnight.

It seldom comes in a day, week, month, or even a year. That’s why we strategically invest in an organizing framework built on a foundation of one-to-one relationships, collaborations, partnerships, and people power.

It’s a strategy that works.

Our Impact

  • A Call for Care

A call for help during a mental health crisis should never end in the death of a loved one. But that has been the tragic experience of numerous Indiana families. And with 80 percent of our inmate population experiencing a mental illness, Indiana needed a better option.

Faith in Indiana led ‘A Call for Care’ Campaign, an unprecedented coalition of faith, business, and community organizations, to Indiana’s overhaul of its crisis care system to the tune of $100 million. Now, many Hoosiers have a place to call, a person to come, and a place to go during moments of crisis.

  • Transform Law Enforcement

In the wake of the 2020 reckoning for racial justice, and a string of police murders, Faith in Indiana leaders passed the strongest oversight body of law enforcement in the nation. Leveraging the power of the new general orders board, the community advanced a host of measures aimed at keeping us safe; progressive discipline, data transparency, use-of-force controls.

These measures, and our organizing, led to officers being charged with homicide for the first time in the history of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. We are working toward safe communities where law enforcement is accountable to the communities it serves.

  • Gun Violence Reduction

At Faith in Indiana, we believe every child and adult deserves to live in a safe, stable community. But that’s not the reality for hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers, especially those in black and brown communities.

In 2021, we led efforts to implement the Gun Violence Reduction Strategy in Indianapolis. The intervention program led to a 16 percent decrease in gun violence in 2022 — the largest year-over-year reduction in the city’s history.
